When did you start skating: 1985
Favorite Skate Brand: Riedel and RollerBones and RollLine
How did you pick your derby name: It is a fun homage to my start in education. Short hair, black rimmed glasses, and an overly inquisitive demeanor led some of the veteran teachers to nickname me Jinkies and it has stuck for almost 22 years now.
How did you pick your derby: My number is connected to when my husband and I started dating many moons ago.

What about derby caught your attention? When did you first start playing?
16 years ago while at open session I met with an old friend who described a new sport. I thought hey maybe I can do that and well I have been going ever since.
Did you play any other sports before derby?
I was a competitive artistic skater since the age of 4. About 16 years ago derby blossomed in Ventura County and called my name.
What’s something you’ve learned playing derby that has translated into another part of your life?
Persistence and dedication. Derby is an ever evolving sport and every game is unique and exciting. But you have to keep going and trying.
Do you have a favorite & a least favorite position? Can you elaborate?
I prefer blocker over jammer. Honestly I am falling in love with reffing as an Outside Pack Ref too!
What do you do to get ready for a bout?
Music and a simple warm up.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about playing derby?
Try and believe in yourself. Everyone's derby journey is different and magnificent. You can't compare yourself to others. It is all about your own personal growth and love for skating.

What keeps you motivated to keep playing when things get tough?
Reminding myself that I am part of a team and WE have work to do!
What’s your favorite part of skating with VCDD?
Seeing the excitement of our newer younger skaters finding their passion for the game.
Any last bit of advice you'd like to give people??
It is ok to not be perfect... just try again.
