​Our refs don’t just blow whistles at the games, they’re participating members of the league who attend practices and skate along with the players. If you’re observant, outgoing, and like being in charge, this may be just the thing for you. There are a ton of different positions on the ref team that include “on-skate” refs and “off-skate” officials. ​

Non-skating officials (NSOs) are responsible for tracking penalties, timing skaters in the penalty box, timing each jam, updating the scoreboard, tracking stats, and much more! They also handle the paperwork and communication information after bouts.​

​Skating referees monitor the game for safety and fairness. Experience is not necessary--we’ll train you! Those who wish to skate as refs but don’t have skating experience will spend time with the fresh meat to learn basic skills and safety and are required to pass an assessment and a rules test. Skating refs must also purchase their own equipment and are held to the same safety standards as our skaters.
