What about derby caught your attention? When did you first start playing?

I really like contact sports and going fast! I started playing at the same time I started learning to skate.

What was that “one moment” when you knew playing derby was the right thing for you?

When I finally found my legs and started doing faster and faster laps.

What’s something you’ve learned playing derby that has translated into another part of your life?

Balance and core strength for moving objects at my work

Do you have a favorite & a least favorite position? Can you elaborate?

I love being a jammer and getting to force my way through the wall but I dislike having to be a brace because honestly I’m just not very experienced at it.

What do you do to get ready for a bout?

I stretch and drink a protein shake

What advice would you give to someone thinking about playing derby?

Derby is a difficult sport to try to excel at without lots of outside practice so make sure you have the time to commit.

Do you have a derby mentor?

Wham! is the one that first got me into derby, but honestly everyone there has been an amazing help, if I had to say specifics I’d say Boss has been one of my best mentors.

​What keeps you motivated to keep playing when things get tough?

I’m motivated by knowing that there’s really nothing else like derby

What’s your favorite part of skating with VCDD?

The community!

Derby is for fun, so play it however you have the most fun!
