What about derby caught your attention? When did you first start playing?

The overall badassery caught my attention. I came to watch a bout in 2009 and signed up shortly after.

What was that “one moment” when you knew playing derby was the right thing for you?

I think that would have been one of my first bouts. The feeling of laying someone out then going and eating pizza with them afterwards was pretty rad.

What’s something you’ve learned playing derby that has translated into another part of your life?

Start with the basics and slowly fill that tool belt

Do you have a favorite & a least favorite position? Can you elaborate?

Blocker all day! This body is not made for jamming. I die 💀

What do you do to get ready for a bout?

Usually eat a pasta dinner the night before and lots of water. The day of I just stay busy. No matter how many years I’ve played I still get anxious on bout days.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about playing derby?

Do it!! Come skate but give it time. When I joined I almost gave up cause I was so out of shape. I stuck with it and I’m so glad I did.

Do you have a derby mentor?

I don’t have one in particular, I am surrounded by so many talented athletes. I try and learn something from all of them.

​What keeps you motivated to keep playing when things get tough?

My teammates. I don’t want to let them down.

What’s your favorite part of skating with VCDD?

The camaraderie and the sunsets.

Any last bit of advice you'd like to give people??

Go skate and wear your protective gear!
